Material World: Insurance Comparison Site You’ve Been Waiting for
A website that takes the guesswork out of buying insurance.

The Insurance Comparison Site You’ve Been Waiting for

We can’t believe someone didn’t think of this sooner.

When was the last time you bought travel insurance, and how did you go about doing it? Personally, it’s always been a thorn in my side. I know it’s important to have it, but I’ve always put it off right up till the day before I fly. My financial advisor told me this wasn’t the smartest thing to do, because if I had the misfortune of experiencing any flight delays, my insurance company might not reimburse me, due to the last-minute purchase.

I decided to buy an annual travel insurance just a couple of months ago just so I wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of buying single-trip insurance each time I travelled. How did I choose my plan? Well, one of the companies I had bought insurance for emailed me about a 30% off promotion and I just went for it – truth be told, I didn’t even properly scrutinise what was covered, let alone take the time to see how this compared to plans offered by other companies. It was simply too troublesome to do so!

That’s why a service like GoBear is long overdue and, I suspect, going to be a gamechanger. We already have meta search engines to look for flight and travel deals – why not one for insurance too?

All you have to do is key in your destination and travel dates, and you’ll be shown multiple insurance plans side by side so you can find the best deal for you. The site compares over a hundred plans from almost all the major insurers in Singapore, and it guarantees transparency. Promotions by the various insurers are also covered on the site, and you can easily share the results with your friends and family to get their opinions. The site is also extremely mobile-responsive, you don’t have to pinch, zoom and squint to read off the screen.

GoBear doesn’t sell insurance off its site. Rather, you’ll be automatically directed to the insurer’s site once you’ve made your choice.

The site only offers comparisons for car and travel insurance for now, but Andre Hesselink, CEO of GoBear ensured us at the media event that the company is working hard to include personal insurance plans, and other types of insurance by the end of the year.

I don’t know about you, but now that this service is launched, I’m pretty sure I won’t be leaving the buying of travel insurance to the last minute anymore.
